 | At Saint Matthew's, Lectors, Lay Readers/Chalice Bearers, and Eucharistic Visitors all assist the clergy in administration of the Eucharist. Lectors read the Sunday bible lessons to the congregation. Lay Readers/Chalice Bearers lead the Nicene Creed and the Prayers of the People, and assist with administration of the wine chalice at communion. Eucharistic Visitors take the consecrated elements of bread and wine out from the Sunday services to those who are shut-in or in the hospital, thereby bringing into the celebration people who might otherwise miss their communion.
All members of Saint Matthew's are encouraged to consider serving as a Lector. Confirmed members of Saint Matthew's are welcome to serve as Lay Readers/Chalice Bearers, or Eucharistic Visitors, and are licensed to do so by the bishop. If you are interested in serving, contact the rector.
